Many business tariffs charge for your highest demand as well as your total energy. A battery can shift energy out of peak periods and shave the spikes that set your demand charge.
Grid demand across a working day
With a battery, the battery supplies the sharp peaks (red), so the grid never sees more than the target. It recharges overnight at off-peak rates (blue).
Without a battery, every spike in demand comes straight from the grid, and on a demand tariff the highest spike can set the charge for the whole month.

Questions
What is load shifting?
Load shifting means using energy at a different time from when you'd otherwise buy it. You store solar or off-peak energy in a battery and use it during more expensive peak periods.
What is peak shaving?
Peak shaving uses a battery to supply short bursts of high demand, so the maximum demand the grid sees (and that some tariffs charge for) is lower.
What do you need from us to design a system?
Ideally 12 months of interval data from your retailer or distributor, a recent bill and access to your site. We'll guide you through getting the data.
